| ......you are doing a great work there and it is important that the coaches there understand what a significant work they are doing, too. It is only natural for some of the coaches to think that because they are coaching at levels lower than the NBA, NFL or MLB or D-1 NCAA sports of any type that they are not succeeding like those who are in those positions. That is no even close to the truth. Bigger is not better. It is simply a bit different. What is important is giving honor in your life to God in your endeavors, whatever the level or venue. And the first levels are at home and in the workplace separate from the field of play. Then the coaching will follow suit. The effect that they are having on young lives will not be as evident to them right now. But after they have been in coaching several years, they will get a perspective from the feedback they get from their athletes who have been out in life. At that point they will realize the significance of what they are doing now and know it was a life well spent when done correctly, regardless of the level. Taken from a note to Nelson Cook from Del Harris, former L.A. Lakers coach. |

My Coach My Coach is my hero. Even if he is hard on me. My coach helps me find victory in myself. Even if I have been defeated My coach gives me an endless supply of courage. Even if I am frightened. My coach helps me find positive things in myself. Even if no one else can. My coach gives me his time and attention. Even if he has little spare time to give. My coach shows me what it means to be a leader and a team player. Even if I am just a rowdy teenage boy.......today. by Donald Holder, Longview Texas from COIN May 2008 newsletter. |
